Corian countertops are the most popular synthetic countertops.

The most popular and best known of all the synthetic countertops surfaces is Corian.  Corian countertops are made from an acrylic-based material produced by the Dupont Company for over 40 years.  The material is available in a wide assortment of colors and it differs from other countertop materials in that the surface can be renewed by sanding or buffing.

Corian countertops have a hard, non-porous surface, but they can be scratched and damaged by heat so they do require some attention.  On a day to day basis Corian countertops need to be cleaned with soapy water or ammonia based-cleaners and then wiped completely dry or the surface will develop a dull film.

The great advantage of Corian is that the pigment goes all the way through the material which means scratches, nicks and other minor damage can be repaired with light buffing or scrubbing using various grades of Scotch Brite pads or mild abrasive cleaners.  Damage that is more severe can be removed with sandpaper, moving from coarse to extra fine grades of paper.
